At Telluride Offroad Adventures, we are dedicated to your comfort, enjoyment and safety. For these reasons, we use Swiss Army Pinzgauers for all of our backcountry tours.
The Swiss Army Pinzgauer 710M is a unique military vehicle specifically designed to transport troops through the rugged terrain of the Alps. Other configurations include hard top radio trucks and 6-wheel versions.
Since many of the 4X4 trails here were originally built as mule transport paths, the Pinzgauers narrower profile, higher ground clearance, and tighter turning radius gives it a bit more breathing room in the tighter areas that we travel. The removable soft tops allow for open air viewing from the safety of the 8-person passenger area.
Four wheeling in the Telluride area is world class for good reason. Volcanoes and glaciers formed these majestic and captivating mountains long ago.
The Ute Indians then inhabited this area for centuries before precious gold and silver were discovered by pioneering prospectors nearly 150 years ago. Hard rock mining operations were responsible for the boom towns of Telluride, Ouray, Silverton, and many others that have now become lost ghost towns such as Tomboy, Sneffles and Gladstone, towns we will bring you to on our tours.
Mule teams and wagons were needed to transport the ore and supplies to remote, high elevation camps in this area. Lucky for us today we can still access much of the high country on these very same historic routes.
Pinzgauers are well suited to reach places that are impossible to get in most vehicles, so that you can experience our past history and present beauty up close and personal.
